Task 2
Main Visual Elements
I started drawing the main visual element of the
website, which is the
Apollo cake, by referring to both official product images and
the physical packaging. I explored a
retro-inspired style
using half-tone textures, but the illustration
initially felt flat. After several experiments, I
found that applying a
roughen effect on the edges
made the cake look more realistic.
I illustrated the remaining five Apollo cake flavors
while maintaining a consistent visual style.
Although the cakes look similar, I realized that
each flavor contains different design details,
meaning I could not simply recolor one illustration.
As a result, each cake had to be redrawn individually, which takes more times but I like how it looks
good and authentic together without looking like a
recolor version of each other.
Other Visual Elements
I
worked on additional elements such as the
chocolate and wooden stick. I decided to combine
hand-drawn illustrations with real-life
references
to create a unique visual style. This approach
adds contrast and depth while reflecting the
nostalgic nature of Apollo cakes.
Font Header and Button Style
After reviewing my initial typography choice, I
realized it affected readability. Hence, I tested
and changed the typography to Sophia Pro
for clarity and
Cooper Black for title text. I also finalized the button and header style. I
like the final button looks more like a cake with
the rough edge.
There are 2 types of header, one with no dropdown
another with dropdown when the page has light
colour, the round edges is inspired by the edges of
the apollo packaging.
